Sustainability

Owning Wave Sport means you're living life to the fullest. But if the world's your playground, you need to clean up after the party. That's why as a company and through our Team Wave Sport members, we practice the highest levels of environmental responsibility to leave the earth a better place than we found it.

Whether it's expeditions across the world that encourage climate change awareness, or manufacturing initiatives to ensure that our production of kayaks has the lowest environmental impact achievable, we're at the forefront of industry green initiatives.

2009 Initiatives

From April 1, 2009 through August 31, 2009, Wave Sport (a Confluence Watersports brand) will roll out a brand new program designed to support local organizations, introduce more people to paddling and establish a platform for a long-term sustainability initiative. The program is called “Paddle It Forward.”"Paddle It Forward” is a simple concept in which everyone gives a little, and receives a lot. Donate your used hard-shell kayak or canoe to any 501(c)(3), outdoor or environmental educational organization and bring the proof of donation to a participating Confluence dealer. With this proof of donation, you will receive nearly 20-percent off the cost of a new kayak or canoe.

Wave Sport Employee Volunteerism Program

Wave Sport (a Confluence Watersports brand) is offering its employees paid time off to give back to the paddling community. With 500 employees among its seven brands and an internal sales team spread across the country, there is a substantive opportunity to make a difference.

“Many members of our team work here because they are passionate about paddling, which goes hand in hand with the health of rivers, lakes and oceans where they paddle,” said Sue Rechner, CEO of Confluence Watersports. “As an organization, we want to enable them to give back to the community and to the industry.”

Any employee who has worked continuously with Confluence for a minimum of five years may take an additional five, paid days off per year to volunteer. The effort must be broadly related to the paddling industry, from water clean-up days to teaching kids to paddle.

This initiative contributes to two guiding principles for Confluence: to support the growth of the industry and to promote a satisfying work environment for its employees.
