1) Clean the area with soap and water and let it dry
2) Leave the old sealant in place unless it's pulling away from the boat or bulkhead
3) Lay down a thin bead of sealant
4) Smooth with a gloved finger
Wear protective gloves and don't be afraid to use plenty of sealant! Lexel, 3M 5200, Sika-flex, Marine Goop (other marine grade sealants may also work) are available at most hardware stores.
